ASK was invited to attend a String Quartet concert and we accepted! We all had a wonderful time and then to top it off we had lunch with the local seniors who were also attending. We even had several compliments on how polite and respectful we were. Part of the visit was our own Mrs. Coutemanch sharing her skills us on the violin and the viola. We were able to practice on her personal instruments:) ASK is so great! We had water races and splashed lots of cool water on a hot day! Lastly, we went to the park and made camping sandwiches. Lots of active learning happening everyday!!

This week we gathered around our campfire to learn all about what you need to have to go camping and what you might want, including s'mores! Which looked so good we decided to make some ourselves! We also challenged ourselves to create shapes on our geo-boards, wrote camping words in shaving cream and got to paint! While waiting for s'mores we also got to explore at the park and do an alphabet scavenger hunt! We also read at the library with our friends, what a great week!

ASK just keeps on getting better and better!! This week we made delicious patriotic ice cream cones filled with red, white and blue fruit! We had Long Lake Conservation Center share some fun animals with us! We walked to the library, we read stories about 4th of July activities. We learned about patriotic symbols and how solids change to liquid and gas. We are making great friends and keeping busy!

This week in ASK we are talking about making dirt cups (YUM) and playing ZAP and making a campfire headband and counting camping themed stickers to see how many will cover our camping themed picture and reading camping stories and sharing the details in order and writing stories about how to make a campfire (both fiction and non fiction ideas!). Of course we dance and sing and play games together and walk to the Library as well!

Our last week!! :) Thank you for sharing your child with us, we had THE BEST time this summer. On Monday we had our last trip to the library and the other half our class did a garden activity. We even got to sample a cucumber from our garden for snack. We are looking forward to getting to try more garden treats when school starts. We played a fun Fish, Fish, Grant Us Our Wish game where the kids worked on speaking in complete sentences. We sang some great songs and practiced balancing with our bodies and beanbags/scarfs. Tuesday afternoon we headed out to BOWL!!! After bowling we walked by an Aitkin baseball game and sat down to watch as the kids practiced good audience behavior and sportsmanship. Enjoy the rest of your summer!!! We look forward to another great summer next year!!

We can hardly believe that ASK is almost done. We are having so much fun! On Monday 1/2 of our class explored the garden and got to bring home their own flower! They can be planted in the ground right in their pots. We talked about things we need to bring with on vacation today as we played a fun game. This afternoon we ate DIRT AND WORMS! The kids had a blast helping to mix pudding and smash their Oreos!! On Tuesday we walked up to First Lutheran Church to listen to the Lakes Area Music Festival performance. We listened to an Opera singer and a pianist play some familiar and unfamiliar tunes. We practiced being a good auidence member and after we were done we ate lunch together there. It was such a fun and new experience for the kids. On Tuesday of next week we will be heading to the Bowling Alley. PLEASE make sure your child has socks on this day. Have a great weekend!

Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun please shine down on us!!! We were hoping for some sunshine today instead of drizzle, but it ended up being okay for our walk to the public library. We enjoyed searching for books to read and in a new environment. We enjoyed our morning stations today followed by Millie's Moments time where we were able to free play with our new friends. Some of us enjoyed time in our tent reading books today. What a great place to relax! We can't wait to show you what is in store for next week!

Water was the name of the game(s) today!! We plucked ping pong balls out of a bucket of water, read the camping word on the ball and wrote that word into a sentence. We predicted what objects might sink or float and then tested our predictions. We raced to fill a bucket with water using a red solo cup and everyone was such a great sport! Oh yeah we went to the park and made camping sandwiches using a sandwich maker that our teacher put over the campfire. We were able to choose apple or strawberry and man were they warm and tastey! Please remember, socks next Tuesday, we will be going bowling during our last day of ASK. Tuesday, again, water was the name of the game, only it kept coming out of the sky:( So we changed up our schedule and used the gym to play motor lab games! Who can wiggle through the tunnel, jump through the hopscotch mat, scoot on a scooter, stack red solo cups.....we can!

Monday was cooking day! We made smoothies with frozen fruit and then cracked eggs into a baggie, added cheese, bacon bits or salsa and shake, shake, shake. Then the teachers placed the bags into boiling water for a bit and presto chango! Eggs in a bag! Perfect idea for a camp out! Remember to bring your library card for our weekly visits to the public library! Just a friendly reminder that the last day of ASK, July 25th we will go bowling. Please bring a pair of socks!

OHHHHH NOOOOO!!! Summer ASK is almost over!!! We have had such a wonderful time learning and playing with Camping themed ideas. We have painted fish with water and tissue paper. We made camping "stuff" with Stikky Wikky and hid goldfish crackers under camping vocab cups. We worked on a fishing story and made lists of what we would need to go swimming and fishing. Are these things for fun or to keep us safe?

A fun, WET day at ASK today.....not really, but we did get a little wet with our games we played. In the morning we worked on our stations, played bowling in the hallway and got our wiggles out by playing with hula hoops and a tunnel. After lunch we walked to the park for more fun at the playground followed by some water games. The first game was intense as the kiddos tried to fill up an ice cream pail as quick as they could. The second game required squirt guns and beach balls. The students had a blast trying to squirt the balls to the finish line. When we got back to the school in the afternoon, we ate dirt and WORMS.....YUMMY!

Eggs in a bag?! Smoothies?! What a great Monday of ASK we had! We were finally able to get over to the park, as the water has receded back inside it's banks. Some other fun things we did today were finding words in smelly rice, creating camping play dough masterpieces, predicting what objects would sink or float, and seeing how many ping pong balls we could hold under water (which lead to great subtraction stories). At our writing center we got to create a story about what a bear might come searching for in a campsite. We had some creative writers!! We hope you were able to enjoy them!

Did you know that firefly eggs glow?! Also, if a frog eats too many fireflies, it too will glow! We learned a lot of cool things about fireflies today! We also did some fun reading and math activities, as well as a trip to the library. After lunch the kids were SO excited to head on over to the park to play since yesterday was so rainy, but mother nature had other plans for us!! (Also, we added a couple videos from last week and our exploding lunch bag experiment! Check them out in last week's post!)

Whoa!! We had a backwards day today! Normally we do our stations in the morning and then our outside activities in the afternoon, but not today! Because of the heat and potential storms, we decided to flip flop and go to the park this morning. We made "Fire Pies" (bread and pie filling over the campfire), played on the playground and had a BLAST with the parachute. Even though we were sooooooo tired from weekend festivities and fireworks, we played hard!

Perfect weather, perfect day!! We made catapults and flew marshmallows all over the place! Did you know that the more marshmallows Mrs. Proctor put on our roasting sticks the STICKIER she became?! I wonder why? All of our students followed good helping behavior as we walked to the park and back. When we share we say, "That's it, that's all, there is no more" It helps our friends know we are finished and ready for the next share er:)

Little chilly today at ASK! We had fun exploring the outdoors on our nature hunt! We found a robins egg, a large branch, we drew the wind, stones, grass, berries and we kept our papers safe from the wind by holding them with two hands! A fun motor activity we did this morning was hula hoops! Mrs. Sundholm is so good at trying it! She never got upset, even when it never worked. What a good role model! Check out the fun pictures and videos below from today!!

Wow! What a crazy week we had. We were very sad that we didn't get to meet yesterday, due to the storm damage from the rain. We sure had a fun day today getting caught up. Our theme for this summer is "camping", and we are going to be doing lots of fun activities in reading, math, science and COOKING! This week we got to make cooler corn and homemade lemonade. It was fun to peel the corn and to juice the lemons.
